Victor's Triumph!
Almost two years ago my son, Victor, who was two and a few months at the time, was diagnosed with speech delay, possibly apraxia. He was not talking at all, barely making any sounds and no eye contact. He had lots of problems with feeling in his mouth.
He started making sounds and trying to communicate to us within the first 2 to 4 months of program. He sounded like an infant. He started using two word phrases about 9 months into program. And after we had been doing program for about 15 months, which was this past Christmas, he started talking in whole sentences. Now we cannot get him to be quiet! Now he initiates conversations with us. He will talk to people in public. He is still a bit shy, but not nearly what he was. He will talk on the phone with a few people he knows well. He still has problems with some sounds, but the majority of the time his speech is understandable by not only us, but most people.
It is a lot of work, and we have some more to go, but it has definitely been a good experience for me.
