Twelve Year Old with Autism and Non-Verbal
I just saw a twelve-year-old boy for his first reevaluation in New York. His diagnosis came in as Non-verbal, Autistic.
The changes in him are HUGE!
In June, there was no way he would/could come into the church. It paralyzed him. So, I worked with David and his mother outside in the playground area. Today, he came straight in and interacted inside for 90 minutes!
In June, David would not interact with me at all. Today he hugged me, played with some cars and a ball with me. Gave me a touch sequence of one, a visual matching sequence of one, and smiled and interacted well with me.
In June, he was not following directions at all. It took his mom multiple requests and then she just finally moved him to do what she wanted. Today, he did everything asked quickly, on the first request!
In June, he really was more in his own world and stimming a lot. Today, he stayed engaged the entire 90 minutes. He was significantly more aware of what was happening around him and was noticeably interested in what was happening.
In June his sleep was poor. Now, he is sleeping excellently.
In June he continually pace, rarely sitting or resting anywhere. Now, he will sit for extended times, calmly on a couch or chair.
In June he wasn’t calm, happy, able to control himself or interact. All of that is now gone!
